magnificent trophy of my Hangai Argali in my trophy room.
It again reminds me the great hunt with you last August. I

Altai Argali (Ovis Ammon Ammon) The
largest of all three Argali sheep in Mongolia, Altai Argali
(Ovis Ammon Ammon) is referred to as King of all sheep.
Bearing the heaviest horns with the most beautiful shapes
Altai Argali is a dream for any wildlife enthusiasts. Mongol
Altai part of extensive Altai range occupying large part
of western Mongolia is home to Altai Argali. Altai Argali's
main habitats are exposed hills standing at up to 10000
ft above sea level and rocky pockets between the snow-capped
peaks of the Altai range. In summer time, Altai Argalis
mostly graze on green meadows of higher slopes of Altai
mountains and sometimes migrate up to edge of glaciers.
During winters, Argali moves down below mountain bottoms.
Altai Argali has light brown coat with a white rump patch.
A male of Altai Argali is over 4ft tall (120-125 cms), body
length is 5 ft (150 cms) and weigh 400lb (170-180 kgs).
The horns curve in spiral and normally measure 50-60 inches
in length and 15-20 inches in circumference on the base.
The largest recorded trophy of Altai Argali is 72 inches
in length and 22.5 inches in base (Museum of Natural History,
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia). Hunting season:June 15 - October

Gobi Argali (Ovis Ammon Darwini) Gobi
Argali (Ovis Ammon Darwini) is more abundant in number compared
to the other two species. Gobi Argali mainly inhabits rocky
hills and sandy bluffs of Gobi. Argali is found all across
the Gobi region that occupies almost a third of Mongolia's
large territory (600,000 sq.miles). Gobi borders with the
endless eastern plains in Sukhbaatar province in the east
and stretches to the Trans Altai Gobi in the west. But large
part of region is under protection. The major hunting areas
are Dundgovi (Middle Gobi) province, Argalant Mountain in
Dornogovi (East Gobi) and Umnugovi (South Gobi) provinces.
Gobi Argali is lighter in color and smaller in body size
compared to Altai and Khangai Argalis. A male of Gobi Argali
is around 3.5-4ft (110-117 cms) tall and weigh 350 lb (155-165
kgs). Hunting season: June 15 - November 30 Average trophy size: 40-45 inches in length, 13-16
inches in base circumference
Khangai Argali (Ovis Ammon Darwini Mongolica) This
subspecies of Mongolia Argali sheep inhabit rocky mountains
of Khangai range, the largest mountain chain of Mongolia
occupying most of central Mongolian mountain steppe and
forest steppe zones. Khangai Argali is also found in few
in Horidol Saridag Mountain near Huvsgul Lake to the northern
tip of Mongolian territory. The major hunting areas for
Khangai Argali are to the southern part of Khangai range.
Mountains in southern part of Khangai range with no or less
trees in this area offer more suitable habitat to Argali
sheep. Khangai Argali has light brown coat with a white
rump patch. A male Khangai Argali weighs 360-380lb and measures
3.6 - 4 ft in height. Hunting season:June 15 - November
30 Average trophy size:42-48 inches
in length, 14-18 inches in base circumference
